The Traditional Pubs Real Ale Experience

Traditional Pubs meander around the Southern Peak District.

David will escort you on a tour around some of his favourite  traditional and historic pubs in the Southern Peak District using local rural bus services. The scenery is a delight with wooded limestone valleys and ancient isolated stone-built barns on the Peak District plateau. We will visit a total of 4 public houses in three market towns over the day and sample a range of British beers with the emphasis on quality, local and slightly unusual beers. David will tell you about the evolution of the public house from Roman times to the present day. Our itinerary may include old coaching inns or perhaps a hostelry converted from an old silk mill. There are stories behind many pub names which will give you a fascinating, humorous and sometimes subversive insight into British history, customs and attitudes.

You may find yourself snuggling up to a cosy real fire or supping ale in a sun-drenched beer garden (weather permitting!). This trip where you will meet the locals and the occasional eccentric landlord, will give you an unrivalled insight into an important part of British life

We support the values of CAMRA- The campaign for real ale and also of the LocALE movement which encourages imbibing locally produced, (often from microbreweries), beer.

Above all else, this is a fun tour where our aim is your enjoyment and to give you a greater understanding of the British pub.

This experience includes:

  • The cost of travel between the market towns that we visit.
  • Four half pints of British beer.
  • A detailed knowledge of the interesting pubs that we will visit in each market town.

  • Knowledge of the availability of amenities in the market towns visited.
  • Knowledge of the interconnectivity of the rural bus services that we will use.
